Jess and Becky – Circular Weaving
Have you seen Tammy Kanat’s circular weaves? If not you need to check her out …her work is bold, large and a feast for the eyes. We love her, and we love circular weaving.
Weaving is acknowledged as one of the oldest surviving crafts in the world. The tradition of weaving traces back to Neolithic times – approximately 12,000 years ago. Even before the actual process of weaving was discovered, the basic principle of weaving was applied to interlace branches and twigs to create fences, shelters and baskets for protection. It will be roughly the size of a doormat, or small coffee table.
Aim of Session
Working in a small group, you will have the choice of a vast array of threads, flosses, ribbons, fabric scraps and yarns to create your circular weave. You will learn the basic techniques of weaving on a circular frame. You will be encouraged to be experimental in your approach when combining colour and textures. At the end of the session you will take your weave home ready to be placed at your front door, under your coffee table or hung on your wall.
You can bring your own fabrics, yarns, flosses, and threads to work with, and combine with the yarns and fibres we have available, or you can just turn up – We have a vast stock of materials and yarns that you can use during the workshop. You do not need any weave experience, just a desire to learn a new technique, or work in a new way.
And hey – if you’ve been too our tassel mad workshop – why not embellish the edging with some beautiful tassels!!
Working in a small group you will have the advice and expertise of Jess and Becky to support to create the interior accessory you’ve always wanted. Weaving, like other crafts is a mindful act. Crafting your own weave will give you the space to work ‘in-the-moment’, sensing and choosing colours, textures and yarns that feel ‘good’ to you. It allows you to set aside your phone, tablet or other tech and just ‘be’ for a few hours – uninterrupted from the happy hecticness of life.
PLEASE NOTE: THERE WILL NOT BE NO DEDICATED LUNCH BREAK IN THIS CLASS
